You are funny! And you're a pretty good singer. I'm jealous that you can carry a tune. Bummer about the Angel in the Morning song. I like it too, still do, but sounds like it's not an appropriate theme song. I have to mull it over. I bet there will be lots of good suggestions!
ohhhh, i really, really wish i had sound on my work computer! this will be the first thing i look at when i get home! i can't wait. :D
Hi Melissa. You can sing! You teased me though, you only sang a tiny bit, and just when I was starting to get into the groove you stopped! More, more!I was also hoping for a smile!Theme song? Hmmm? I will have to think. It's hard to pin one down, because you are so many wonderful things.

Only thing I ever could need, only one good thing
Worth trying to be and it's

I would kill to have your hair color...
Love the video.

thanks for the comments about my singing! I've always loved to sing - was in the school choir, but every time I start spontaneously singing around the house (which is quite frequently), my sister just tells me to BE QUIET!
And Juliana - AHHH!! What great choices!! xoxo
Melissa you're such a good singer!
I love your video blogs, Melissa!
John Desjarlais came to our writing group on Sunday to talk with us. I WAS NOT THERE!!!!! I'm so bummed I missed him.
But...umm...theme songs? What about...err...umm...
I'm out of ideas.
All that's coming to mind is the Flipper theme song, for some reason...and that's not right AT ALL!
Hey justin -- if you ever want to come to my class let me know! :)
Gotta agree with your mom on this one. Hate Angel in the Morning. Can't think of a theme song right now because unfortunately Party in the USA has been stuck in my head all day. I love your videos!
bringing sexy back =)
haha jk.
or Hold On by Good Charlotte but thats a sadish song
a more up beat song would be...
that one you belong with me by taylor swift.
Yael Naim - New Soul
My favourite lyric is
I'm a young soul in this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout what is true and fake.
Plus any song that includes 'la la las' is A-OK in my book
Hmmmm, Sexyback is intriguing! xoxo
Love this vlog! You have a great singing voice, I am jealous...
I like the Yael Naim suggestion!
You have such a nice voice...I can't carry a tune, but that doesn't stop me from singing all day long, much to the horror of my teenage sons!
Since I am so new to your blog, I don't know what song...but I have been singing "Hot Child In the City" all day today. You are probably too young to know that song, it always puts me in a good mood!
xoxo
hi, bunny!! Actually, Hot Child in the City is one of my favorite songs!! It's a great one to sing along to! :)
So glad you stopped by! xoxo
Way to go!!!
I love that song too. the angel in the morning.
I do love the melody of the song...just not the lyrics! :)
Hey Melissa,
I agree with everybody, you have such a cute voice! And I am in love with your glasses. I collect big frames like that, so whenever I see someone wearing some, I'm instantly happy! :)
I really like the New Soul Suggestion above, but I was thinking for you, something more liiiiiike....
Fidelity by Regina Spektor,
'i never loved nobody fully, always one foot on the ground. and my protecting my heart truly, i got lost in the sounds'
Love, Norah xx
Agree- you're a great singer!
What about Far Away by Nickelback?Good luck :D
I love those Regina S. lyrics! xoxo
I was thinking more along the lines of talking heads "burning down the house" ?....a little wilder I suppose?
Most Girls by Pink
Because Melissa Blake is not like most girls
I'll take that as a compliment, Anon, because you're damn right -- I'm most definitely not like most girls. and that's exactly how i like it... :)
How about "Closer I am to Fine", by the Indigo Girls? It's catchy and has great lyrics. BTW, I was giggling profusely with the whole prostitution/one night stand thing. "I don't condone one night stands...ok, or prostitution..."
I saw you ask for suggestions for improving your blog on Twitter. I don't have Facebook to comment there so here are some suggestions:
More cohesive "theme." It seems that unless you have undergone something horrifying and are currently recovering from it (NieNie, Heather Sphor) or have been accused of being a liar (My Bottle's Up) you don't get fame without a solid theme. The blog "My Husband is Annoying" went from obscurity to popularity within a few weeks because of the humorous and consistant theme. Although your broad theme is "love," your blog is more like a giveaway/sponsorship/songwriting blog and/or general "pieces" about your feelings on love.
If you blog does have the theme of "disabled girl searching for love" as you say, then you need to actually show the readers that you are searching. Searching means actively looking for. You are passively writing about love. In every weekend round-up you say that your weekend is going to be spent relaxing with your family at home. That's lovely, but it's not putting yourself out there looking for love. If you are so busy, then maybe you should try online dating and share your experiences there. I saw you previously state that you found online dating creepy, but most of your interactions seem to be with people you only know online. It's no more creepy to talk to someone with the intention of dating them then to talk to someone with the intent of networking with them.
I notice that you try to sell yourself to a lot of different places- Your TIME tweet today for example. I really think you could get some fame from your blog, but you'll have to start putting yourself out there. I keep seeing you write about how you won't lower your standards or expectations because you don't expect too much, but you do expect too much if you think that you can do nothing and get something from it.
Anon, thanks for your thoughts. But I'm actually pretty happy with my theme of love/disability. I express it in many different ways (i.e. Love Lounge, MEMO TO MEN, Letters to My Future Husbamd, etc.). I also love to mix in some inspiring things I find on the Web. All incorporate disability talk on some level. So as far as consistency is concerned, I'm quite happy, actually.
Dear Anon, if you are reading this-come on...if you are going to leave a comment like that you really should leave your name. Some of what you said had a great point...but really most of the popular blogs out there are not just about one subject. Readers would much rather read about life-and life is a crazy, beautiful mix of everything. I think that Melissas almost 2,OOO readers would agree AND the fact that you read her blog says something.
I think that is wonderful that you were honest and cared enough to comment, but you should leave your name when you comment. As for love---most of the time we find the most amazing love in our lives the moment that we stop looking...

Why ask for comments on improving your blog if you just immediately discredit them?
Why does attaching a name to anything matter? You don't know me, you aren't going to even if I give you my first name and tiny picture of whatever I want. Everyone anonymous comment or user comment is from a person. Take them as seriously as you want. Since you seem to only care about ripping apart the questions/concerns and reposting the praise, it doesn't matter anyway.
Anon, while I DO welcome your thoughts, I'd appreciate it if you email me instead of just commenting in a random post.
As for not focusing on my disability, check out these posts

Where did I say you didn't focus on your disability? I never said that. I said- if you are saying you are disable girl searching for love then we should see more SEARCHING. That's all.
Hey Melissa...loved the video...I'm the worst when it comes to music...all I can think of is that song..."We all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine." I don't know why that songs is stuck in my head...and I'm sure I'll get blasted for this but I'm not sure who sings it...heaven help me, but I think, the Beatles? Like I said, music & me...not so much. Anyway, as a new reader of your blog, I love it and hope you find your theme song! By the way, pardon my french...Anon, you're an Ahole. And, I dont swear that often! Look forward to reading more interesting & inspiring posts!
Hi Ruby -- you're right, it's the Beatles!! :) Glad you enjoy my blog!
You're a pretty good singer. I'm jealous that you can carry a tune. Bummer about the Angel in the Morning song.
