Do you have nicknames for your siblings?

After my sister's birthday a few weeks ago, I got to thinking: I rarely call her by her name (which is Janelle, by the way...). For as long as I can remember, we've called each other sister. It just felt so much more comfortable, and eventually, that moniker morphed into sister friend, which ultimately morphed into my personal favorite sister bear. I'm guessing the last nickname comes from our love of The Berenstain Bear books.

There's something so sweet about nicknames, isn't there? It's almost as if it's a secret just between the two of you -- something only the two of you share. And honestly, it feels weird now when we call each other by by our first name; I almost have to do a double-take. Is that weird?

So, friends, I'd love to know: Do you call your siblings by their names? Or do you have nicknames for each other? Have they changed since childhood? Do you like these nicknames?

P.S. Look out! A new Love Lounge is coming your way shortly!

To me, my siblings were Bubba, Wee, Dollface, Napoleon, and Loo. None of them even close to their real names..

I have wayyyy too many brothers and sisters, so I call them all my the first letter of their name.. Brooklyn has always been 'B', Ty has always been 'T', Erik has always been 'E', I have always been 'M' and so on... there's way too many of us, so it's just easier that way haha

I don't have siblings, but all of my favorite people have nicknames! I love having special names for people, especially once you’re really close or really great friends :)

I have two siblings, an older sister and brother. yeah, sometimes it's like im in hell.. LOL. but i also love having them, look after me.. well, the three of us have nicknames which our parents call us it all begins with I. My sister is Inna, my brother Ian and me Ica. If you are one of those close family friends and relatives you'll know our real funny nicknames.. my sister is olive because she's like a stick like olive oil in popeye, my brother is ant as in the red or black insect. LOL. aside from his thin body, he also used to sneak out of bed at night to grab some food.. and my nickname could be much like happy feet (in our family, ive got the largest feet size compared to my mom and sis).. I've just had a fight with my sis.. this comment makes me more happy and grateful that i have them. Although I still wish that i have a younger sibling, sometimes it sucks to be the youngest in the family.. :) (As usual, I love your blog post.. ^_^ Sorry for the looong comment of mine.. XD)

I don't really...just call my brother Bro sometimes.

My fiance and I were saying just yesterday that we hardly ever say each other's names, normally just "babe" or "pie" (our special cutesy nickname for each other)

There are no nicknames in my family growing up, but my daughter has a few. We call her Bug (short for love bug) and baby bear.

I only have a nickname for my youngest sister. Ever since she was a baby, I've called her just that- "baby". That's the way it's gonna stay!

Lemme begin by saying, i think you were the CUTEST thing in the world when you were little. Oh my gee, this picture is just too cute! Now that I have that out of my system I will answer your question. I have a brother and sister. Both are younger than me. But, I only call my sister by the nickname (which she claims to hate)Chunk.
Then of course there has to be the variations like chunkaroo, or chunkarella, or chunkacita, or the chunkmeister. But, for whatever reason I just call my brother Tristann Tris and none of them call me a nickname.
And you're so right, calling them by their full or proper names is just against nature

We usually call each other by our regular names, but do use "Sissy" (short for Sister) on occasion. :-)

that is awesome, april....my parents let me choose my sister's middle name (elizabeth)! :)

This is a cute post, Melissa. My big sister used to call me Wendy Bananas because I was a spaz. My youngest daughter calls her big sister "sissy"... Which, for some reason, sounds super sweet every time I hear it. :)

We don't really have nicknames, but we say eachother's name is goofy ways. I always say Audra with a brooklyn accent. Awudra! And she calls me Grask.

Sibling nicknames are so unique. My sister and I call each other 'manita' which means "little sister" in Spanish.

My mum had a nickname for my sister Sasha which was "Sasharina-bumsquirt." --- Which in my young mind was hilarious (and still is!)

my other sister (actually, both of them) is spanish, Victoria, or Tori, had long black hair, a tattoo around her arm and to me looked exactly like Pocahontas -- that's what I called her. We don't speak anymore so it never got passed that...

I now call Sasha 'Hermana' 'Rent-A-Drunk' and still the old favourite of 'Sasharina-Bumsquirt.'
