An Open Letter To Myself.

Dear Melissa:
I know you're struggling right now and it seems like nothing is ever going to get better. You might feel like the walls are closing in and that no matter how hard you try, you're feel are stuck in that metaphorical mud. It's hard. I know.

I know it seems like nothing is ever going to be the same again, too. I know you feel like you'll never be that girl you once were, and you look back on what you call your "old" like and miss it so much. You didn't realize how good you had it before, you think.

But I'm here to tell you one thing: You ARE getting better. You might not be able to see it now, but each day, you are getting stronger and stronger. You are back at work, which is something to be extremely proud of. When you were in the hospital, I didn't know how you'd ever go back to work, but you did. That right there is a testament to your strength and willpower. You haven't lost your strength. Sure, you may have to look a little harder to find it, but it's there. It never went away, so take comfort in that.
I know you miss your writing too. It seems like writing anything is a struggle now, but baby steps is the way to go here. Know that your concentration and writing pizazz will come back in time. So until then, write what you can and know that that is enough for now. We both know you have trouble hearing the word patience so many times, so I won't tell you to remain patient. Instead, I'll tell you to remain calm. Does that help?

Also, take comfort in the fact that people love you and want to help. Don't be afraid to ask for help. And don't be afraid to go easy on yourself right now. You've been through a lot and are still recovering. Don't be afraid to go at your own speed, whatever speed that may be.

You, Melissa, are a heck of a lot stronger than you think you are. You're a fighter, so let's see some more of that fighting spirit; we both know it's in you. Look at all you've been through. You got through all that, and you'll get through this. I promise you. And we both know I've never been one to lie about anything.

How Do You Relax?

This photo of a bubble bath has got me mesmerized today. It's been freezing here in the Midwest, so curling up in a warm tub sounds perfect right about now. What about you, friends? What do you do to relax and de-stress? Any tips? xoxo

Wedding Traditions.

I stumbled upon the wedding shoot of Khali and Potsch this morning and fell in love. They're such a creative couple and had a whimsical wedding. At the reception, they had the guests sit in a circle with a rope the couple had made. "The rope symbolized each of our independent experiences intertwining and creating our lives together," says Khali. "When Potsch and I came into this relationship we each had a suitcase full of fabric from past and someday projects. It was fun to shred them and tie them together."

Isn't that a great idea? I'd love to know, friends: Did you carry out a tradition on your wedding day? Will you? Any special activities? xoxo

Letters To My Future Husband: Letter #125

Dear Mr. Melissa Blake:
I've had a lot of time to think lately, Sweetpea. Lots of time. It's amazing what your mind will drift to when you have lots of time on your hands. I've been thinking about what I want for us. Now, I'm not talking about material things here. I'm talking about things I want for us as a couple. And being the list lover that I am, I've compiled a few of my favorites for you...

I want us to live in the moment
I've been struggling with this one lately, and I think we'd be good for each other.

I want us to challenge each other
I never want us to get too comfortable with each other, you know? That could get pretty boring if you ask me. Now be warned that I'll probably challenge you a lot with my feisty nature. Don't say I didn't warn you, Sweetpea.

I want us to be honest. Always.
Honesty is a pretty big thing for me, and dishonesty is most definitely a rule-breaker for me. I can promise I'll always be truthful with you, and I hope you feel as though you can always be truthful with me.

I want us to smile
You can never smile too much, so let's have lots of laughs, OK? You know, the loud, raucous kind that make your entire stomach hurt. The kind that leave tears streaming down your face and the kind that make you feel like you don't have a care in the world. You must be funny because you won my heart, so I can't wait to laugh with you.
Does this list make sense? Now, I'm not trying to put any pressure on us here. Well, not too much anyway, Sweetpea? Until we meet....

How neat would it be to have a lego wall in your house? I'm in love with this one! xoxo

Man Candy Monday

Happy Monday, friends! How was your weekend? I'll be the first to admit that this guy didn't catch my attention until a recent movie. But he caught my attention in a big way with his charm and charisma. He's also a bit dorky, which always wins me over...

Love Lounge: What Are Your Emotional Needs?

I've been thinking a lot about emotional needs lately. After all, we all have them, don't we? We all want to feel safe and secure. But we also want to take care of other people; it's human nature.

So here's the question of the day, friends: What are you emotional needs? xoxo

Zodiac Necklaces.

Check out these awesome zodiac necklaces from Julie Nolan's shop! What do you think about all the hubbub over the tinkering of the dates? Are you still the same sign you were? What is your zodiac sign, friends? xoxo

Food Friday: Hearty Winter Soups.

As I recover, I'm quickly realizing the power of food in my healing. So how about we bring Food Friday back, friends? First up: This recipe for baked potato soup immediately caught my eye. I'm a big fan of soups year-round, but in the winter, there's nothing like a hot bowl of soup to warm you up. The wind chills are in the negative '20s today, and now I'm craving soup.

What about you, friends? What's your favorite soup? xoxo

Vintage Wedding.

This is a wedding after my own heart. I love how Abbey + Dan used unique touches to their wedding to make it so whimsical. Aren't those scrabble tiles awesome? And how about that typewriter? Two items. Dan also said top hats were at the top of his must-have list for the wedding. What would be on the top of your list, friends? xoxo

Dream Home: Glass House.

I couldn't resist posting about this amazing glass house. How cool would it be to live there and let the sun stream in every window? In these dark winter months, I'm finding myself craving the sunlight, and this house looks perfect for that, don't you think, friends? xoxo
