Peek Inside: My office desk

Let's continue with the office theme, shall we, friends? It may have taken me most of the day yesterday, but my desk is finally all clean and organized. It's amazing what a sparkly, shining, looks-brand-spanking-new desk will do for your mood -- and productivity level. I'm not ashamed to admit that it even made me a bit giddy too.

So, 'fess up, friends: What does your desk at work look like? What's on it right now? Do you like your desk bare, or do you have like to display little things that make you smile, like photos of loved ones? Do you work best when your desk is clean, or are you a fan of organized chaos? xoxo

P.S. Recognize those pens? Thanks, Jessi!

  1. My desk is a total mess right now. Camera, magnifying glass, photo album, papers, tape measure, post-it notes, the requisite Diet Coke can and cup of ice . . .

You're motivating me to clean it up!

  2. I'm organised. I have a few things to remind me of my loved ones but no pictures and who doesn't know don't see the personal-emotional connection.

For example, I have several office staples - keys of drawears, note pads etc - inside a box of chocolates that was given to me by my best friend.

My post-its are in a silver holder that was given by my son...

And on and on. Who sees it see pratical but for me there's lot of emotional connection in them. As for the rest, I'm awfully clean and organised. I can't work or live in disaorganition or mess.

Yours look lovely! I like you pen-holder-mug

  3. I try to be as organized as possible. My problem is I have a boss who is totally unorganized and she has a habbit of dumping her clutter on my desk LOL. I do prefer to keep things neat and tidy at work. I feel more productive that way. If I were to have stacks of papers and such on my desk I'd feel like I wasn't accomplishing anything in my day.

    XOXO,

    Jamie

  9. Hi, Melissa:

I've new to your blog and really enjoy your writing so much. You have a beautiful way of putting the words and thoughts together. I wish I had that talent. I've enjoyed going through your past blogs and catching up on your life and enjoyed so much the pictures of you and family.

I'm retired but when I was working I kept an immaculate desk. Can't work with clutter or dirt around me. Cleaned my desk every Monday morning so I had a nice clean start to the week. No pictures or knick knacks - just the necessaries neatly placed.

I happened on to your blog by reading Cup of Jo every day. You are both amazing writers.

    Have a wonderful day.

  13. My desk is always clean. So is my office. My in box and outbox are cleared out daily. I have some cool little things that I have out, like a candle that looks like a bomb (you would have to know where I work to understand), a GIANT pink eraser that says "for huge mistakes" and a few stress balls that I've collected from conferences. Everything on my desk has its place.

  14. Melissa in all seriousness my desk looks like it could qualify for FEMA relief. That's not the sad part. The sad part is that I know where everything is in the mess. Everything.

  15. Just M -- I'm impressed! Where did you get the eraser? I'd love one!

  17. I have to say... I just got a new office desk at work. They decided to upgrade every ones office furniture at the start of the year. Unfortunately, I've already cluttered it up. ;0)

  20. Keeping an office desk organised is quiet hard to do, especially if you have so many tasks to finish. But if you can find time within the day to simply do some arranging, then an organised office is truly possible.
