Sponsor Spotlight: Svelte

Today's interview is from Liliana Turecki, the owner and creator of Svelte, a line of shapewear for women of all size. The Canadian brand was born out of a need for more comfortable leggings. They've since expanded and now offer shorts, skirts and tank tops, and there's something so awesome about the simple, minimal design. Read on for Turecki's take on athleisure wear and her advice for looking chic on a budget! xoxo

Tell me about Svelte. What's the inspiration behind its launch?
Svelte was created when I realized there was a gap on the Canadian market for women looking for attractive clothing that accompany the body through its ever changing needs. We wanted to create a product that was between suffocating shapewear and low-rise jeans, something comfortable that worked with your silhouette and still made you look nice. This was the idea behind Svelte -- to create high-quality basics that flatter all body types and figures and remain cozy and easy to wear.

What are some trends we're seeing as we move into the summer? What are some of your favorite fashion trends?
One of the big emerging trends in fashion right now is athleisure wear, which we totally love! The point is to go from home to the gym to social functions without having to change. Although it’s obviously too casual for the work place, it’s still an amazing trend for evenings and weekends!

What are some things people should keep in mind when shopping for leggings/fashion in general?
Leggings are still a relatively new product on the market, and people forget that not all leggings are created equal. Some are clearly meant to be worn as tights, so they are often very thin and see-through. Others are more sports-oriented. While others still are thicker and well-cut and can be worn as pants. So it’s important to realize that different leggings are appropriate for different occasions. The same goes for fashion in general; keep in mind the build and details of your clothing because it only takes a few tweaks for some pieces to look really nice or way too casual.

What are some ways that people can still look chic for less?
Although it sounds a bit counterintuitive, the secret to dressing for less, in my opinion, is to dare to spend a bit more on your basics. Investing in timeless high-quality basics that you can keep forever is actually a great way to look fashionable for less. Think about it: Every season, you only need to buy some fun new pieces that you can pair with the basics you already have. You can dress them up or down, layer on to them and update your look very easily!
What is your favorite piece in your shop and why?
My favorite piece is definitely the Tight Ankle in the ponte. It’s a timeless classic! The ponte de roma leggings are amazing because their fabric was developed by Svelte for Svelte leggings. This means it’s extra stretchy, comfortable and thick so it doesn't show anything that’s going on underneath. Plus, I've washed mine a lot and they never lose their color! For me, these are classics on which I build a whole outfit on.

  1. I have a terrible habit of slouching. I'm going to try to replace it with standing tall. I like the idea of adopting a new, but better habit!
